A Personal Journey Toward a More Responsible Arctic

Traveling around the world, I began to see the difference between places where people cared for the environment and places where they didn’t. That contrast changed the way I wanted to guide.

Here in Lapland, almost everything we use on the ski trails comes from the forest that surrounds us. Our shelters are built from snow that melts quietly back into the land each spring. Nothing permanent — only what belongs.

Studying sustainable tourism has helped me understand that sustainability isn’t just environmental — it’s also social and economic. It’s about how we treat the people and communities who make this place what it is.

We come to the forest to witness its beauty. If we don’t consistently care for it, that beauty — and the balance that sustains it — could easily be lost.
